Day 32 – Mount Rushmore to Kansas City

724 Miles

Unfortunately, we have to think about going home now. Large leaps to the east and south are ahead of us.

Today, we covered a lot of ground, driving all the way across South Dakota, from Keystone to Sioux Falls, then south through the flooded fields of Iowa, and finally, to our hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.

If you’ve read this far, you know that we have enjoyed every one of these long drive days. Seeing the country by car, at our own pace, has been an unforgettable experience.

We did make a dinner stop near Council Bluffs, Iowa to meet my Uncle Paul and his partner, Margo, who live across the river in Omaha. Again, fortuitous routing led us to an unplanned visit.

Our hotel in KC was close to the interstate so we could get going quickly in the morning. We had decided to stop in St. Louis on our way to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
