Short Stories

Junkroski Bookshelf This genre was my first love. From grade school creative writing through high school and college short story courses, the spirits of Shirley Jackson, Guy de Maupassant, O. Henry, and H. H. Munro (Saki) inspired me to try to fascinate readers with an economy of words – something not in my nature, my friends will tell you…

Though I rarely find myself writing in the horror or suspense genres, Stephen King’s collection “Night Shift” has long been a particular favorite of mine, illustrating how the mundane can be made extraordinary by the right wordsmith.

I’ll add to this section from time to time, when the mood hits me.

Selections:

Crisper Death – Survival of a pandemic isn’t too bad. Until it is.

An Abstraction – Awareness is power.

The “Boy” Series – not related, except by title:

Fire Boy – What to do when the fuel runs out?

Water Boy – A young couple finds a secluded beach – and trouble.

Slow Boy – A relationship that never got off the ground. Or did it?
